چکیده
This work reports on an evaluation of the computational fluid dynamics–discrete element method (CFD-DEM) numerical approach to study behavior polymer-filled suspensions in a parallel-plate rheometer. For this purpose, open-source CFD-DEM solver is used model such considering different particle volume fractions and types rheology. We first validate for single-phase flow continuum phase (fluid phase) by comparing fluid’s azimuthal velocity shear stress components obtained from against analytical expressions given cylindrical coordinates. In addition, we compare torque procedure with Newtonian power law fluids. both cases, there remarkable agreement between results. Subsequently, investigated effects fraction rheology suspension. The results agree well experimentally measured ones show yield phenomenon increase fraction.

متن کاملA co-located partitions strategy for parallel CFD-DEM couplings
In this work, a new partition-collocation strategy for the parallel execution of CFD–DEM couplings is investigated. Having a good parallel performance is a key issue for an Eulerian-Lagrangian software that aims to be applied to solve industrially significant problems, as the computational cost of these couplings is one of their main drawback. The approach presented here consists in co-locating...
متن کاملParallel Open Source Cfd-dem for Resolved Particle-fluid Interaction
In the following paper we present a parallelized resolved method for the simulation of the dynamics of immersed bodies within fluids. The algorithm uses the so called Fictitious Domain Method (FDM) and combines the Lagrangian Discrete Element Method (DEM) for the tracking of the bodies and a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method for the calculation of the flow and pressure field of the flui...
متن کاملStructure of colloid–polymer suspensions
We discuss structural correlations in mixtures of free polymer and colloidal particles on the basis of a microscopic, two-component liquid-state integral equation theory. Whereas in the case of polymers much smaller than the spherical particles the relevant polymer degree of freedom is the centre of mass, for polymers larger than the (nano-) particles, conformational rearrangements need to be c...
متن کاملComparison Studies on Corrosive Properties of Polyester Filled Graphene Primer Coatings via Sonication and Mechanical Method
This paper investigates the mixing of the graphene (GR) particles in the polyester (PE) resin by using two different dispersion techniques which are mechanical stirring and sonication method. This paper shows that the mixing method has a significant effect on the corrosive behavior of the coatings. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) characterization technique is done to analyze...
